Wisteria for Maltese pergolas

Further to the letters Ta' Qali Pergolas (December 11) and Adorning The Pergolas (December 17), I can confirm that the spectacular creeper wisteria can certainly grow in Malta, as can be seen from this photo of the variety wisteria floribunda macrobotrys grown successfully by us in our little garden at home. It is in full bloom in late spring and provides shade with its foliage in summer, and it is therefore most suitable for our climate, so long as it is watered regularly. In the winter months, however, it sheds its leaves and lies dormant.
