As I was reading one of the local newspapers on December 12, I came across an Allejanza Nazzjonali article. I think Malta has achieved a miracle with all three political parties agreeing on something.

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the way they have joined forces against any of AN's proposals. What AN is suggesting regarding the incentives given to married women obliged to stay at home raising their children and taking care of the house itself is indeed long overdue. It was about time somebody speaks out on behalf of these women. It's a shame to read what shadow minister Marie Louise Coleiro Preca and Minister Dolores Cristina had to say about this matter, were they continuously speak about family values.

I urge Mrs Coleiro Preca to carefully do some homework on why we have such a low fertility rate. How can a couple, both working, even think of children?

In the case of AD, I can only say that no wonder AD hasn't been and will never be popular with voters on election day. How can its spokesman define as being rich those married couples where the wife remains at home? That is the most discriminatory statement I have ever heard from a responsible person.

Myself, I am happily married, my wife takes care of the household, I do not consider myself rich, like the AD spokesman declared, but we are happy to adapt to what I provide. I do not consider myself the breadwinner because what I earn is ours. Even nature shows us that the man goes out hunting for food while the woman takes care of the family. Animals are not influenced by any political views but by nature itself.

I urge all voters to cast their vote wisely. They should not go by what their heart tells them but should use their brains, analysing who can offer us the best package (not a 20-year-long project), that safeguards our way of living on a daily basis.
