Call for inquiry at Gozo Ministry

Labour leader Alfred Sant yesterday said Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi should investigate the operations of the Ministry for Gozo led by Giovanna Debono.

Dr Sant was addressing a press conference at the road leading from Victoria to San Lawrenz which is being reconstructed.

He said costs on the road have already exceeded the original estimate by Lm1 million and this was when only 75 per cent of the work has been carried out.

Dr Sant said Ms Debono had promised that work on this road would start in 2004 and be completed in 2006. Despite this, the project has not yet been completed.

The 3.3-kilometre-long street is co-financed by EU funds.

So far Lm2.8 million have been spent on the new road, he said.
