Valletta does not have its roads paved in gold. But Republic Street is carpeted in euros.

The Malta Office of the European Parliament this morning rolled out huge carpets showing euro coins as designed by the various countries in the eurozone, the latest in a series of activities as euro adoption day fast approaches.

The carpets, showing the coins against a blue background, cover all the way from City Gate to the palace.
