Foreign Minister Michael Frendo has described the EU-Africa summit as "a new beginning in EU-Africa relations after a seven year gap from the Cairo Summit in 2000".

Attending the closing session in Lisbon in representation of the Prime Minister, who spoke at the summit and returned to Malta yesterday, Dr Frendo said the summit "afforded Malta the opportunity to put to all 53 African countries the seriousness for Malta of the illegal immigration issue".
