The three Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle - formed an important part of the education campaign adopted by the Qrendi Scout Group as part of its 2007 'Clean up the World' campaign.

Through the assistance of Med Ecology Ltd, Malta's Educational Agency on Waste Management, the Qrendi Scouts and Cub Scouts welcomed to their fold Mariella Grixti, who lectured them on various aspects of waste management as well as on waste segregation at source.

An informative lecture was complemented with games orientated around the correct use of waste segregation, and use of the various bins within the bring-in sites. The scouts went on to collect reusable and recyclable discarded waste from within their community, gathering plastic drinking water and glass beer bottles in the process. Within a short time, over 300 discarded items were collected and later deposited in the bring-in sites by the scouts present.
