Promoting migrants' integration

A unique free online language course has been launched to teach migrants English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Romanian, to help them integrate into the international labour market.

The course can be found at www.linguasnet.com together with a complete source of information regarding immigration in Europe.

The course is the product of a two-year project entitled 'Immilabour', sponsored under the EU's Leonardo da Vinci progamme, that involved partners from five members states, including Elanguest English Language School, St Julian's.

Bernice Farrugia, Elanguest assistant director of studies, commented: "The end result will hopefully be beneficial for people who are generally regarded as burdens to our society. It is always the easiest option to pass judgment on people who are not in a position to defend themselves, so we decided to take a different standpoint and do something to help immigrants by giving them the tool of language - a tool which will help them to integrate faster in our society, and eventually enable them to overcome the language barrier."
