The letter by George Debono (Mepa's Monumental Madness, December 3) makes a lot of sense. As City of London Bar is situated a few metres away from these weird structures in St Julians, a lot of tourists and Maltese passing by often call at the pub and ask me what they represent. I can only explain that they are a sort of an obelisk without a taper, or monolithic columns. As a person who works in the area I would have been more than pleased if this space was used as a parking area, accommodating at least three or four cars.

On the other hand a couple of benches under the trees would have been more beneficial to the elderly people coming out from the nearby supermarket with their heavy shopping.
