On the occasion of Teilhard de Chardin Week, the Philosophy Society is holding two public talks in Lecture Theatre 1, Erin Serracino Inglott Hall, Lecture Centre, on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 p.m.

In Tuesday's lecture, Remo Vescia of the French Teilhard Association will speak about 'Meditating upon Beauty with Dante, Teilhard and François Cheng'. In Vescia's words, "It is remarkable that these two great poets and scientists, Dante and Teilhard, separated from each other by over 600 years, both approached the subject of beauty using the sphere as the image of the universe, and the 'point beyond' as the image of God or Omega. Teilhard invented the term in English 'The golden glow' to express it".

On Thursday, Prof. Edward Farrugia, Professor in Oriental Theology at Rome's Gregorian University, will speak on 'L' Éternel Féminin'. Prof. Farrugia comments: "Teilhard's 'L' Éternel Féminin' is literally the translation of Goethe's das Ewige Weibliche, but what a difference in the language the two women speak! With its Gretchen, Helen and Sophia Goethe's work seems to be a signature tune of our times, characterised by its Gnostic agenda, whereas Teilhard's theological love poem strikes a key of a poem yet to be written about feminism after feminism."
