Sports festival at Marsa

Today, from 10.30 a.m. onwards, the MCAST Sports Department and the National Youth Council are organising a sports festival at the Marsa Sports Grounds together with a number of sport associations.

The festival comprises athletics, including 100m and 800m races, shot, long jump and overhead medicine ball throw, weightlifting, baseball, softball, rugby, hip hop, breakdance, basketball, cricket, chess, and a five-a-side football tournament.

There will also be demonstrations of kendo, karate, gymnastics, judo and hip hop, sports-related talks by Dr Julian Mamo and Dr Charmiane Gauci, Health Promotion Unit director, and the Motor Sport Association is putting up a karting track and motorcycles display.

The organisers are seeking to attract youths aged 15-35 in particular, though the general public is welcome to attend and participate. Those wishing to take part in the football tournament or athletics competition are to contact MCAST sports co-ordinator Adele Muscat on 9940 3166.
