Knights spoil Attard's unbeaten start

Zebbug Rangers chalked up their fourth win in five matches to consolidate their position in the upper part of the standings. Ex-Qormi goalkeeper Tommy Camilleri and striker Stephen Said, formerly of Sta Venera, made their debut for Siggiewi.

Siggiewi played the better football early on but Zebbug were superior after the break. Jeremy Gatt opened the scoring on 58 minutes when he headed in a George Saliba cross.

Ten minutes later, Zebbug were awarded a penalty for a foul on Julian Camilleri. Saliba made it 2-0 from the spot. Keith Farrugia sealed the issue for the Rangers 17 minutes from time.

On 89 minutes, referee Sandro Spiteri showed a red card to Sig-giewi's Josef Micallef and Edgar Degabriele, of Zebbug.

Ghaxaq 4

A second-half hat-trick by promising striker Bjorn Dalli earned Ghaxaq their second win of the season as Mtarfa remained without a point after six matches.

Mtarfa held tight during the opening half but Ghaxaq broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute thanks to Dalli. He scored again a few minutes later with an angled shot and further increased his team's lead in the 74th minute as he finished off a good move by Francois Galea.

Five minutes from time Ghaxaq captain Kevin Gambin scored a fourth and final goal.

Mdina Knights 3

Attard slumped to their first defeat of the season, losing 3-0 to fellow promotion challengers Mdina Knights on Monday. The Knights have reclaimed sole leadership in Section A, two points ahead of Zebbug who have a game in hand.

Attard dictated matters in the first half and were unlucky not to forge ahead as efforts by Elon Cassar and Floyd Farrugia hit the woodwork.

Mdina took the lead after 13 minutes, Ian Sammut heading the ball home from a Nicky Micallef free-kick.

On the stroke of half-time, Mdina moved two goals up courtesy of Roderick Schembri. Mdina all but sealed their victory nine minutes into the second half when Ayrton Buhagiar hit the target after receiving from Sammut.

Attard's hopes of launching a comeback vanished when Yan Grech was shown a red card for second booking.

Second-half goals by James Tabone and Owen Spiteri helped Gzira turn defeat into victory against Santa Lucija who suffered their third loss in five matches.

Gzira went close to scoring early on through Spiteri and Darren Caruana but it was the Saints who created the better chances as shots by Antoine Sapiano and Roderick Mangion were saved by Keith Galea.

Veteran Aldrin Muscat headed wide from a cross by Tabone for Gzira but a minute before the break the Saints broke the deadlock. Charles Agius fired Sta Lucija ahead following a good move by Sapiano.

Gzira started the second half on a flying note as Tabone made it one-all in the 50th minute.

Barely a minute later, Gzira went ahead with a Spiteri goal and threatened to further widen their lead through Thane Micallef.

Eleven minutes from time, Justin Felice missed an easy opportunity and, shortly afterwards, the crossbar denied the Saints off an attempt by Aaron Sciortino.
