Maltese photographer Joe P. Smith won two photographic awards at the Malta Institute of Professional Photographer's convention. He won first prize in a competition sponsored by Avantech, with the prize a Canon (A3+ printer) Pixma Pro 9500.

Photographers had to present a digital image printed on site and then judged by a panel of Maltese and foreign professional photographers. The winning photo depicts a corner from an antiques street dealer in Gozo. Mr Smith also won second prize in the 16x20 competition where photographers had to submit a maximum of three (16x20 inch) photographs. This competition was open to local photographers and foreign ones attending the convention.

The first prize was awarded to an Irish photographer and the third prize went to a photographer from Scotland. The second prize consisted of flights and a super ticket to attend the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers/British Professional Photographers Association's convention in London in January.
