Opposition Leader Alfred Sant yesterday sent a letter of congratulation to the leader of the Australian Labour party, Kevin Rudd, on his victory at the polls.

Dr Sant said he recalled that when the two met in Sydney, Mr Rudd "expressed yourself then in visionary and realistic terms about the future of Australia and Labour's plan to make new things happen".

Dr Sant said he firmly believed the Malta Labour Party would soon be back in government "so that we can continue and improve on our long record of friendship and cooperation, not just on a party-to-party basis, but equally in government-to-government mode".
