It was an all-trotting card at the Marsa Racetrack yesterday. Of the ten events, four were sponsored by Zombor Enterprises, on 2,640m, while the rest were heats on 2,140m reserved for French Bronze 2 and Bronze 3 category trotters. Here, 18 horses made it to the finals.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Premier Class which did not, however, include the best trotter around - In Vitro Du Bourg.
Red Baron had a fast start in the Premier Class and until 100m from home it was still in the lead. But, then Red Baron lost pace and was overtaken by eventual winner Power Cape, a nine-year-old Swedish trotter.
Demilo Action was second and Red Baron had to settle for third place.
Three different horses occupied first position in the Gold 2 race but in the end it was Noel Baldacchino's Noble Spirit which went on to win by four lengths. It was Noble Spirit's second success on the trot.
In its second outing at Marsa, Always Brazz, controlled by Darren Mizzi, surged into the lead midway through the distance before crossing the line first in the Gold 5 race.
An attack initiated 800m from the post, enabled King De Beaulieu (Joe Debattista) to win the opening Bronze 2 heat. Nashwan Boy (Charlo Debono), in its first race in Malta, led all the way to victory in the second qualifier and Habero (Julian Farrugia) passed the post first in the remaining heat.
Also making it to the Prix de Caen final were Krac Des Nouettes, Jovenus, Klaxon De La Croix, Haut Les Coeurs, Jasmin De Serans and J'Oserai.
Forban (Kalcidon Bilocca) won the first Bronze 3 heat after being involved in a final tussle with two other trotters.
In the heat that followed, Leader Changerie (Frank Portelli) increased its pace along the last 150m to register a second successive win.
In heat 3, Infini Vite (Noel Baldacchino) went into the lead midway through the distance and managed to keep in front up to the end.
Il Est Des Ajoncs, Indien, Geronimo D'Em, Ideal De Suce, Hiklande De Monti and Jeune Vivaldi also made it to the final.
In a Bronze 5 race, first place went to Chagall Mistral (Rodney Gatt).
