The General Workers' Union has expressed satisfaction that Air Malta will now be ensuring employees receive equal pay for equal work.
In a statement, the GWU noted that it had been insisting that Air Malta remedies the discrimination which arose between categories of its own employees.
The union represented the airport handlers and the business support assistants. They were receiving a lower wage because, when they first joined the company, they were enrolled on fixed term contracts.
Airport handlers will now be promoted to loaders, and business and support assistants to clerks. Following negotiations between the union and Air Malta, these employees would also be granted arrears dating back to August, GWU said.
