Floriana council recently implemented a parking scheme for residents which has been extended to non-residents visitng their elderly parents living in the town.

There are not so many residents in Floriana nowadays. The parking spaces reserved for residents, where non-residents can park for two hour-and-a-half periods from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. exceed the remaining parking spaces available. Consequently, was this scheme implemented to frustrate all those people who work in Floriana? To rub salt into the wound, the majority of these residents' parking slots are often vacant. Is it perhaps that the residents' children are privileged enough to look after their parents on weekdays during normal working hours?

Residents' parking exists in various other localities, but in no other town or village has it been so crudely implemented. There are many other localities that are more chaotic and problematic than Floriana but residents have not been given the comfort of parking outside their door and of preventing non-residents from parking in their street. Are we who work in Floriana second-class citizens?
