Smart focus on ICT at EMCS conference
No fewer than nine speakers, including a keynote speech by IT Minister Austin Gatt, are addressing the 2007 EMCS conference with the theme Working Smart in a Globalised World: SmartCity and participation in the ICT business.
The full day conference, being held at the Hilton Conference Centre on Tuesday, will provide a total business focus on Malta's ICT strategy and the additional platform that SmartCity Malta will give to this strategy, according to John Grech, conference chairman.
"It is important to note that ICT is not only one of the fastest growing industries in its own right but it is a major business facilitator," he said.
"Today every business, irrespective of which business it is in, is being influenced by what is happening in ICT, which is influencing the very structures of the value chain."
A major thrust of the conference is the afternoon business discussion when conference speakers will join a panel on business opportunities, strategic alliances and networking in the ICT industry.
Apart from interacting with the audience, there is the added participation of Go chairman Sonny Portelli, Cyber managing director Maurizio Soccadato, 6pm operations director Peter Bugeja, Claudio Grech from the Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information Technology, Steve Alamango of Smart Malta, The Magazine, and Klaus Thelen, managing director of Accelerate GmbH.
"This will provide the opportunity for participants to identify opportunities, form strategic alliances and conduct business networking, which will make participants' investment in time well worth it," Dr Grech said. He will deliver the final session on Focus and Flexibility in the 21st Century Business Model - Presentation of a Framework.
