THE TIMES

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh arrive in Malta today at 5 p.m. and will mark their  60th wedding anniversary by meeting Maltese couples at the Upper Barrakka  gardens in Valletta .

The roof of another residence in Sliema collapsed early yesterday but the sole resident escaped unhurt when he decided to sleep in his sitting room, rather than his bedroom, fearing a repeat of what had happened to his friend Giovanni Camilleri who died in similar circumstances on Sunday.

More people have come forward to confirm cases of exploitation of Chinese fishermen in Malta.

The first babies have been born at Mater Dei Hospital. Archbishop Paul Cremona blessed the hospital yesterday. The transfer of patients from St Luke's Hospital ends  today.

Investment in manufacturing industry rose by Lm11.8 million in the first nine months of this year, the National Statistics Office said.

THE MALTA INDEPENDENT

The number of cashless payments has increased sharply in Malta over the past few years, reaching 23.7  million last year from 13 million six years before.
