An exhibition entitled 'Seminal Works in Maltese Archaeology' is currently on view at the University Library. The exhibition provides the visitor with a historiography of Maltese archaeology with the aid of key works written on the subject. The exhibition commences with Jean Quintin d'Autun's description of Malta in 1536, and leads up to the present day.

The exhibition is well-captioned throughout and provides the visitor with a detailed description of each work and its relevance to the history of Maltese archaeology. Among the works exhibited are Giovanni Francesco Abela's Della Descrittione di Malta, isola nel mare siciliano, con le sue antichità, ed altre notitie (1647), a rare work by Marchese Carl' Antonio Barbaro entitled Degli avanzi d'alcuni antichissimi edifizi, scoperti in Malta l'anno 1768: dissertazione storico-critica (1794), and Albert Mayr's seminal work Die vorgeschichtlichen denkmäler von Malta: (mit 12 tafeln und 7 plänen) (1901) in which a sound argument is made for the Maltese temples' prehistoric antiquity. The exhibition is open to the public during the library's opening hours and is located on the first floor (Level 2) of the library building.
