Wouldn't it be fantastic if you could ask the world's foremost health, food and fitness experts for the real insider tricks that they swear by? Here's a list of some tips to eat right, stay fit and live well.

ONE

Make exercise more effective
When you are doing repetitions, aim to do 15 to 20 of each exercise. But when doing small pulses, keep going to the point of exhaustion, when you can 't do any more.

2
the muscle-toning trick

Before working a muscle, first touch it, then tense it, then work it. This activates the brain to focus on the muscle you want to tone, which will make it firm up faster.

3

The perfect bottom-shaper
Walking is the best bottom-forming exercise. If you're walking at the ideal pace, you shouldn't be able to hold a conversation without losing your breath. Changing direction, such as when you weave through a crowd, gives added effects.

4

Get calorie clever
When working late, eat a double lunch. Two smaller meals, eaten three hours apart, keep calories down and help you avoid sugary snacks and overeating late in the day.

5

Guilt-free fitness
Do something challenging every day for six days, then rest on the seventh. Keep a record of everything you have done - even walking up an escalator contributes to your daily exercise tally. Energy levels fluctuate from day to day, so train accordingly.

6

The flat stomach strategy
Too much sugar in your diet could make you gain weight around the waist, rather than elsewhere on the body. Cut back on the sweet stuff and you'll see a change in your shape. For a quick energy boost, eat an apple and a few unblanched almonds instead.

SEVEN

The pre-party face trick
Keep two ready-chilled teaspoons in the freezer to cure puffy eyes. Roll the curved side from corner to corner over the eye sockets until the spoons warm up. The face and eyes instantly look tighter, brighter and smoother.

8

Beat the bloat
Stop bloating by cutting out sugar, yeast and alcohol. It's short-term, but it works.

9

The food-shopping tip
At the supermarket, spend more time in the frozen-food section. Frozen vegetables retain many more nutrients and flavour than their fresh counterparts.

10

The anti-aging skin supplement
If you want amazing skin, the herb jiaogulan contains the antioxidant astaxanthin, which is also found in salmon. It improves texture, elasticity and hydration brilliantly in one month.

11

Perfect skin foods
Feed your face by eating blueberries, blackberries and cherries, fresh, frozen or dried, to make your skin look younger. Rich in the antioxidant anthocyanidin, they help to build collagen, ward off thread veins and keep eyes clear by reducing redness.

TWELVE

The skin-firming foods
For good skin, what you put in your body is as important as what you put on it. Lecithin is great as it protects the skin's cell membranes, so it holds onto more water and nutrients. It's found in tomatoes, eggs and spinach, or sprinkle two tablespoons of lecithin granules on your food each day.

13

The diet strategy
Start a diet on Wednesday - research shows that you are far more likely to stick to it. Most people start on a Monday, so by mid-week they've become demotivated and, by the weekend, the incentive has gone.

14

The red-carpet posture tricks
To define the waist, stand with your right side next to a wall. Cross your left leg over the right, turning the foot outwards. Lift your right arm and place the hand on the wall (level with the ribcage). Bend it from the elbow and turn the elbow upwards, so the fingers of the hand face the floor.

Turn your head towards your left shoulder. Place your left arm around the lowest part of the right ribcage and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat on the other side.

The following "strapless dress" trick opens and realigns the chest for the prettiest shoulder line. Stand sideways in a door frame, half an arm's length from the edge. Place your left forearm along the doorframe, elbow bent, fingers up. Lean forward diagonally away from the door. Step forward with your left foot and transfer your weight onto it, so you feel the stretch. Bend your knee slightly.

The mind and body revivers
• Try a one-day "news fast" by not reading, watching or listening to any news. Paying attention to the headlines often leaves us feeling stressed, anxious and even angry.

• Experts also recommend spices such as turmeric and ginger, which are also great for nausea and energy-boosting, to patients with inflammatory disorders such as arthritis and tendonitis, and auto-immune conditions too.

• Get a home water-purification system. As some bottled water contains chemical contaminants and even bacteria, this is the healthiest option, and also the most environmentally friendly way to drink water.

16

The nutrient boost
• Putting freshly ground black pepper on everything helps the body absorb nutrients from food more efficiently.

• If you've drunk too much, add a heaped teaspoon of glutamine powder to a large glass of water and drink before going to bed and on waking, to heal the gut.

• Take vitamins B and C twice a day: they only last for six hours in the body.

17

Grow beautiful hair
If you want great hair, eat a high-protein breakfast. A portion of meat, eggs or fish first thing in the morning provides the hair follicles with the energy they need, at exactly the time when they need it most.
