Delegates of the European arm of the International Dockworkers Council will meet in Malta on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Malta Dockers' Union said yesterday.

Delegates from Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, France, Greece, Denmark and Cyprus will be present.

Terminal operators, leading shipping agents and trade unions such as the Union Haddiema Maghqudin and the General Workers' Union have been invited to attend the opening session.

The theme of the meeting is A Common Policy For European Ports.

The Malta Dockers' Union was set up just over a year ago. The MDU is affiliated to the International Dockworkers Council, set up in 2000.
