Another development application, the third since 1996, has been submitted for Ta' Cenc.

Alternattiva Demokratika's Gozo regional committee is calling on people to send in their objections to Mepa about the proposed development, described in Mepa's website as an application "to develop Ta' Cenc area into Malta's first heritage park and multi-ownership tourist hotel development".

The application is for 38 new villas in the area where 14 villas already exist and an extension to the present hotel, in addition to the heritage park.

The deadline for the receipt of objections is November 18.

AD's spokesman for Gozo, Victor Galea, said the government should have the courage to declare Ta' Cenc a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

"The government should honour its obligations to the EU directives," he said. "Ta' Cenc is an area of importance not just for Gozo but internationally. The government should have included it in the Natura 2000 network," Mr Galea said.
