Frings: Germany midfielder Torsten Frings will be out until the New Year after suffering a recurrence of a knee injury. "Torsten won't play again this year," Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf told the club's website. "He has to give his knee a rest. We hope he'll be back in January."

Terry: Chelsea manager Avram Grant said captain John Terry deserved every penny of the salary that Britain's sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe described as "obscene". "I think people need to understand how he led the team with full commitment in a very difficult time at Chelsea. For this, he deserves every penny," Grant told reporters. Sutcliffe said on Thursday that Terry's reported weekly wage of between £130,000 and £150,000 was obscene and said that football was in danger of alienating grassroots fans.

Boozy escapade: South Korea captain Lee Woon-jae and three team-mates have been banned from the national side for one year after confessing to a late-night drinking session during the Asian Cup in Jakarta. Goalkeeper Lee, Middlesbrough striker Lee Dong-guk, Kim Sang-sik and Woo Sung-yong left the team base to go drinking after Korea's shock 2-1 loss to Bahrain on July 15. The Korea Football Association (KFA) said the episode had tarnished the reputation of Korean soccer.

Kuwait: Kuwait's soccer federation board resigned after FIFA suspended the Gulf Arab state from all international matches because of governmental interference in the national game. The state news agency KUNA said the mass resignation was "carried out for the good of Kuwaiti football and as a suitable and prompt measure to have FIFA's suspension ...lifted".

Bayern Munich: Bayern Munich expect to have Oliver Kahn back in goal with Franck Ribery returning in midfield when they host Eintracht Frankfurt today. The Bundesliga leaders have been without Kahn for over a month after he had surgery on an elbow injury. Ribery has not played since suffering knee ligament damage against Bochum.
