Silence was broken in the narrow and winding alleys of Vittoriosa yesterday as the International Choir Festival and Competition kicked off in Maltese-festa style.

Over 500 choir singers from around the world paraded in the streets, taking music to every corner of the historical city.

Tonight, the choirs will sing prayers ensemble at St John's Co-Cathedral, in Valletta, to invoke peace in the world. The public is invited and entrance is free.

The festival wraps up tomorrow when the winning choirs in the different categories will also be announced.
