To coincide with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer celebrations held recently, GasanMamo Insurance organised a Dress Down Day for all its staff members to generate awareness on global warming and on ways to implement simple but effective eco-friendly measures. All clients who visited the GasanMamo Insurance main offices in Gzira were given a T-shirt featuring Together for a Greener Future and a bookmark, produced from recycled paper, featuring eco-friendly tips.
The management of GasanMamo Insurance strongly supported the Italian government's initiative of requesting businesses to loosen up on the dress code during the hot summer months. An Italian Ministry spokesman had claimed that: "Taking your tie off, immediately lowers the body temperature by two to three degrees Celsius. This allows for a more sensible use of air conditioning, yielding electricity savings and protecting the environment."
Albert P. Mamo, managing director of GasanMamo Insurance Ltd said: "We believe that caring for the environment is part of the ethical obligations of a business concern towards employees, clients and the community in general. Its commitment to the environment is embodied in its mission to achieve certain established goals. We have organised this Dress Down Day to generate further awareness on global warning and to show how easy and cost-effective it is to implement eco-friendly measures. It's a matter of having the guts and will power to implement some changes".
This Day was one of a series of implementations undertaken by GasanMamo to better care for the environment. The latest environmental initiative by the company is a monthly draw for motor policy holders renewing their policy until the end of this year. Upon renewal, clients will automatically benefit from the chance of winning Lm50 worth of biodiesel, a diesel-equivalent processed fuel derived from biological sources, such as vegetable oils, which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles.

GasanMamo Insurance has also initiated various eco-friendly measures within its offices. These measures include the re-filling of printer and fax cartridges, the use of water from the air conditioning system for the flushing system, recycling of paper, when possible, the installation of energy saving lights and car pooling between the staff members of the company. GasanMamo Insurance is constantly on the lookout for other reasonable eco-friendly measures that can be implemented.
An indirect eco-friendly measure undertaken by GMI is its commitment with the Malta Weather Services. Through this sponsorship, the Malta Weather Services acquired state-of-the-art equipment that detects storm and lightning strikes up to a 300-mile radius. "The acquisition of the Storm Tracker and Lightning Detector is also beneficial as it is vital to monitor weather patterns and changes in the atmosphere," said Mark Vella Gera at Malta Weather Services.
