So the closing date is past and all the entries are in for this year's Showtime Writing Competition. This year you were asked to write a "newspaper" feature on a subject connected to the arts. And, without giving anything away, the standard has again been extremely impressive. The job of finding a winner doesn't get any easier with every year that passes. This year the job of assessing the entries will go to a panel of experienced newspaper people, editors and journalists.
We should stress that the job of selecting the overall winner will be the responsibility of the judges alone. Nobody connected to the production of Showtime will have anything whatsoever to do with adjudicating the entries.
To refresh your memory, the prizes are:
From Allied Retail And Commercial Ltd: Lm50 worth of books.
From Masquerade: Two tickets for each of their performances throughout 2008.
From the St James Centre For Creativity: Two tickets per month to the St James cinema.
The winner of the Showtime Writing Competition for 2007 will be announced in the December 7 issue of Showtime.
