The Labour Party parliamentary group yesterday issued a statement in which all 30 MPs denied ever having sent Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi an e-mail saying this year's budget was a good one addressing the country's needs.

The MPs were referring to comments Dr Gonzi made in an interview with The Sunday Times last Sunday.

Dr Gonzi told The Sunday Times: "I've had e-mails directly sent to me, even by people from the opposition party, the Labour Party, acknowledging that this was a good budget, and that it addressed their major needs".

The Prime Minister yesterday stood firm by what he told The Sunday Times.

His office said the Prime Minister would not divulge the identity of people sending him e-mails unless specifically asked to do so by the person sending such an e-mail.

"Maturity and responsibility dictate that the Labour Party should have confirmed its allegations prior to making public statements," the Office of the Prime Minister said.
