The Zoo team, Moira Delia, Ira Losco, Ray Calleja, and Peppi Azzopardi will be among the local celebrities to sleep rough in Republic Street, Valletta, between Friday and Sunday.

The stunt aims to raise awareness on the plight of Malta's homeless - around 300 people go homeless in Malta every day - while highlighting the sterling work carried out by YMCA Homeless.

The charity needs over Lm106,000 a year to run its shelter, Dar Niki Cassar, which houses up to 22 people, its drop-in centre, which deals with around 60 cases a day, and a wide range of programmes to help the homeless reintegrate into society.

Throughout the weekend, the personalities will play 'Jail and Bail' - they will be held in a 'jail' and will only be released when they raise their targeted funds.

Benefactors will be able to dine with their favourite celebrity by bidding, on 2122 8035 or sending an e-mail to diningwiththestars@gmail.com. Personalities will also participate in a 'topless' car wash. Carrie, Ira Losco, Ivan Grech, and others will give unplugged performances on Friday and Saturday evening.

Agenda Bookshop will hold a fundraising book fair at Freedom Square in Valletta from Thursday to November 11. An auction of antiques, paintings and other items donated by the celebrities will also be held on Freedom Square on the last day to close the fund-raiser.
