Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona filed a libel suit against the editor of The Malta Independent on Sunday.

The civil libel suit was filed against editor Noel Grima over the contents of an article entitled Government Investigation Into "Delays" At Gozo Court, on October 14.

In the suit, the magistrate said the article alleged, among other things, that he was investigated by the government over delays in the Gozo courts when the government did not have the competence to investigate the judiciary.

The magistrate has already asked the police to initiate criminal libel proceedings against Mr Grima over the same article.

Lawyer Joseph Mifsud signed the suit.
