Obituary

SPITERI. On October 20, JOSEPH, aged 66, passed away suddenly at his residence. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Laura, his sons Tyron and his fiancée Alexia and Kevin, his brother Manni and his wife Anna, his sister Victoria Grima, his mother in-law Angelina Gauci Borda and his brother in-law John and his wife Nadya, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated today at 3 p.m. at St Catherine's parish church, Zejtun followed by interment at St Gregory cemetery, Zejtun.

MICALLEF EYNAUD. On October 21, Florely (née Busuttil), widow of Gerald, aged 85, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved daughter, Gay and her husband William Carbonaro, her adored two grandchildren Carla and Francis and his wife Sarah, her two sisters Liliana and her husband Maurice Petrococchino and Mariny Ver Elst, her sister-in-law, Vera Micallef Eynaud, nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the Matron, nurses and staff of Casa Arkati who cared for her so lovingly. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

International Cat Show

The Malta Feline Guardians Club will hold its next International Cat Show at the Coastline Hotel, Salina on November 24 and 25.

Tours To Botanical Section At Argotti

The University of Malta is again inviting schools for guided educational tours during the scholastic year to the botanical section of the Argotti Gardens in Floriana.

The botanical section falls under the tenure of the University which has had possession of these gardens since 1855, although the connection goes back to 1805.

A tour of the gardens relates the plant displays to everyday classroom situations and to the general curriculum. Special emphasis is made on observations and explanations related to plant growth. Some hands-on practical exercises are included.

The talks are adapted to different age groups.

The visits cater for students from Year 1 primary to For V and VI students.

The tours are held every day of the week, mornings only and are strictly by appointment.

Research Workshop

The departments of computer science and artificial intelligence at the University of Malta will be holding the fifth in a series of computer science annual research workshops at Villa Bighi in Kalkara, the premises of the Malta Council for Science and Technology, on November 5 and 6.

The workshop is for University staff and students and industry representatives who can present ongoing research. It is also intended to foster research relations between the University and industry.

Student Issues

Insite, the media organisation on campus, has launched its interactive website - insite.org.mt - as well as InSite TV, a YouTube channel (youtube.com/insitemalta).

Though still in its developmental stage, the website has already received thousands of hits, the organisation said. It features online polls, daily news updates, international breaking news and blogs, among others, Insite said.

InSite TV launches a weekly video clip on YouTube, dealing with a particular student issue.

Power Cuts

The electricity supply will be suspended today from 8 a.m. till noon in Lija, in parts of Triq Robert Mifsud Bonnici, Vjal it-Trasfigurazzjoni, Triq il-Knisja, Triq il-Forn and of Triq il-Kbira.

The power supply will also be suspended on Monday, from 8 a.m. till noon at Iklin, in Triq il-Wied and Triq l-Awrikarja.

Religious Artefacts Exhibition

The Fgura outdoor festivities commission will be mounting an exhibition in the old church in Triq il-Karmelitani on the occasion of Fgura Day between Thursday and Sunday next week.

There will be religious paintings, small statues, church models and other hand-made objects.

Anyone interested in exhibiting religious artefacts can take them to the old church on Monday and Tuesday between 6 and 8 p.m.

The exhibition will be open to public on Thursday and Friday from 5.30 to 8 p.m.; on Saturday from 8 a.m. till noon and 5.30 to 7.30 p.m. and on Sunday from 7.30 a.m. till noon and 5.30 to 8.30 p.m.

Entrance is free.

Lecture On Orchestra Playing

The head of strings and professor of cello at the Royal Academy of Music in London, David Strange, will give a public lecture on orchestra playing techniques.

The lecture is being organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts in collaboration with the Johann Strauss School of Music. It will be held at Sala Isouard, Manoel Theatre, on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Prof. Strange is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra Audition panel as well as cello and string tutor for the same orchestra.

Diabetes Assembly

The Maltese Diabetes Association recently took part in the Annual General Assembly of the International Diabetes Federation - European Region held in Dublin.

This was preceded by the "Together we are a stronger" meeting which focused on children with diabetes and the UN Declaration on diabetes.

The Maltese Diabetes Association was represented by Christopher Barbara, secretary, and Moira Grixti, education officer.

Autism Week

The Autism Focus Group has changed the dates for Autism Awareness Week to November 12 to 18. Originally the week was going to be held from November 5 to 11.

During the week the group will launch an autism information leaflet which will include tips on how to communicate with persons with autism and a list of services available in Malta for people with this condition.

First Aid Course

The Malta Red Cross Society will run a basic first aid course at its headquarters, 104 St Ursula Street, Valletta, on November 6, 9, 13 and 16 from 6 to 9.30 p.m.

The course fee is Lm12.
