Edmund Vassallo meets Grazielle Camilleri, the new marketing executive at Muscat Motors, to discuss the new Citroën C4 Picasso

Following the successful launch of the Grand C4 Picasso, a seven-seater, Citroën has continued to extend its vast range with the launch of the new C4 Picasso five-seater.

The new C4 Picasso is distinguishable from its dynamic and sophisticated body styling, wide-angle panoramic windscreen, large quarter-lights framed by very slim pillars, and an exceptionally roomy interior, underlining its identity as a Citroën "visiospace".

The rear pillars are masked by the rear quarter-lights, bringing extra flight to the road and giving an uninterrupted all-glass look. The new visiospace's assertive-looking front end features a bumper with a gutsy look, accentuated by briskly styled headlamps, chrome-stripped fog lamps and wide chevrons on the grille that extend out in chrome strips to the headlamps.

It has outstanding peripheral visibility and light, which makes for safer driving. It has uncluttered interior space and the high levels of onboard comfort. There is a complete set of occupant protection systems, well-designed child safety features and protection against theft and break-in.

The range is available in a total of 12 body colours, with a choice of 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels.

Why does Citroën consider this car as an MPV?

This model enjoys all the advantages of this car segment like class-leading cabin and boot space and a commanding driving position.

It is 4.47 metres long, 1.83 metres wide and 1.66 metres high. Thanks to its intelligent architecture, it can transport five adults in total comfort, plus room for the family dog and lots of luggage, if necessary.

The front seats slide over a distance of 21 cms. The second row features a strength of all Citroën's compact MPVs: three independent, identically-sized seats which can be folded away into the floor without having to remove the head rests, with a quick tug on the strap next to the seat back. The three rear passenger seats provide passengers with equal exceptional room and comfort. Each of the seats in the second row features fore-and-aft adjustment, over 13cms, and a comfort position with seatback and cushion adjustment. Knee room is the most generous in the segment, between 70 and 95cms.

Minimum boot capacity is 500 litres (VDA) with the rear seats pushed back as far as possible. With all rear seats folded away, maximum capacity is 1,734 litres (VDA). The C4 Picasso has also the widest space between wheel arches in its category (1.17 metres); load length totals 1.87 metres with the front passenger seat pushed forward to the maximum extent.

Besides, the Modubox is a removable trolley made up of a solid frame and a soft bag in canvas. It can be used inside and outside the car and is highly versatile. It can be used as a trolley, a cart or as a simple bag.

The engines?

The C4 Picasso comes with a choice of four smooth, high-performance engines, each compliant with Euro IV standards.

A 1.6-litre 110 bhp HDi is fitted as standard with a particulate filter (DPFS); a 2-litre 138 bhp HDi engine, also with DPFS; a 1.8i 16 V and a 2-litre 16V. The C4 Picasso received a 5-star certification in the Euro NCAP test.
