Man dies, another critical in separate accidents

A man died yesterday while a motorist is in critical condition after they were involved in separate incidents.

In the first case, the police were alerted at about 1.30 a.m. that a Somali national was found lying on the ground at the immigrants open centre in Marsa. The 27-year-old man is believed to have fallen a height of one storey.

An ambulance rushed the man to St Luke's Hospital where he was certified to be in a critical condition. The police did not specify what the man was suffering from, though a statement later said that the Somali had died.

The second incident, at around 4.30 a.m., involved a 21-year-old man from Zurrieq.

The man was driving a Mazda along Vjal Sta Lucija, Paola when the vehicle mounted the pavement and crashed into a bus stop.
