The Malta International Choir Competition and Festival 2007, organised by the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, will see the participation of 17 choirs from 13 countries, plus a Maltese choir. They will be taking part in 10 categories.

The choirs are judged by an international panel of jurors composed of three foreign and two Maltese conductors.

The festival kicks off with an opening ceremony in the shape of a local festa in Vittoriosa in the evening of November 1.

Rehearsals and workshops will take place during the day.

On November 2, competitions of the sacred music categories will be held at St Augustine's church, in Valletta at 9.30 a.m. In the evening, a gala concert, with the participation of the National Orchestra of Malta, will be held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, in Valletta.

Competitions of the secular music and folklore categories will be held at the Manoel Theatre in the morning and afternoon of November 3. Friendship concerts will be presented at Freedom Square and Republic Square, in Valletta, at 11.30 a.m. on both days.

Different choirs will take part in church services in various localities and also in a concert at the Salesian Theatre, in Sliema, in the morning of November 4.

In the afternoon, a prize-giving ceremony and a concert by the winning choirs will be held at the Manoel Theatre followed by a farewell party for participating choirs and working teams.
