Schaaf: Werder Bremen have given coach Thomas Schaaf a two-year contract extension until the end of the 2009/10 season, the club said. Schaaf, 46, one of the longest-serving coaches in Germany, has been in charge of Bremen since May 1999. He led the club to the Bundesliga title in 2004 and two German Cup triumphs in 1999 and 2004.

Offensive banners: A Napoli supporter is planning to sue Inter president Massimo Moratti over the offensive banners his club's fans displayed at the Serie A match between the teams at the San Siro 12 days ago.The fan's lawyer Raffaele Di Monda told La Gazzetta dello Sport's website (www.gazzetta.it) that Moratti should pay for the "moral and existential damage" caused by the banners, one of which read "Naples Sewer of Italy".
