The KSU yesterday advised students on campus to park in all available spaces - whether reserved or not - after the University of Malta at Tal-Qroqq ordered that parking around the sports ground on Tuesdays up to 11 a.m. was to be reserved for those students doing PE lessons.
However, the university later said it had reached an agreement with all interested parties - students, academic staff and administrative support staff - that parking allocation was on a trial basis for the first semester.
"It is already evident that some adjustment to the adopted trial allocation may be required to utilise the space available more efficiently. This said, more time for observation is required to establish parking patterns of the various parties involved," the university's communications office said.
The university is, however, allowing spill-over parking to take place on the athletics track around the football pitch as long as this does not interfere with formal teaching on the track. The office emphasised that the number of students wishing to drive to the university is by far larger than the number of parking spaces that is or can be made available. However, the University would continue to seek the best possible allocation of parking after parking patterns are established.
The university has called a meeting of all stakeholders to discuss the issue further.
