The National Commission Persons with Disability said it was satisfied with the content of Monday's budget regarding disabled people and their families.
The commission said the government had included most of the proposals it had put forward. These included the government's commitment towards the ratification of the UN Convention on the rights of disabled people and a commitment towards the implementation of the recommendations made in the Inclusive and Special Education Review (Spiteri Report).
Other important measures listed in the budget were aimed at facilitating the entry of disabled people into the working world (as employers were being exempt from paying stamp duty for the first three years), facilitating accessibility in Blue Flag bays and pubic toilets and the opening of a new residential home in Cospicua.
The commission welcomed the substantial raise in the special children's allowance and the increase in funds allocated to ensure that disabled people could obtain the equipment they needed to be independent.
