I am in full sympathy with Colin Langdown (October 11) - who owns a house overlooking the walls going down the Regional Road to Msida, and on which I suggested an artistic type of recovery - in his complaint about what ugly graffiti, rubbish, weeds, and incessant traffic noise he presently has to put up with.
And, also very positive of him, he also suggests contouring and texturing the walls I mentioned in the direction of some improvement from the present situation.
But beyond that, Mr Langdown must come round to realising that, as in all art, beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder. Not all graffiti art is bad art, and indeed in places like New York, London, Paris, Germany and elsewhere, there is street art which is done with sense, passion and lots of artistic craft. So what's wrong, as I suggested, in getting a properly organised artistic project going on those walls, with (good) graffiti, abstract, and other style artists (Maltese or foreign I don't really care!) working closely to produce what I proposed, i.e. a quality artistic product in the open air and on a busy thoroughfare?
Certainly what I have in mind is something that would be a vast improvement on what Mr Langdown presently rightly complains about. I even suggested having some well known Maltese artists involved, and proper supervision of the whole project, and so I honestly feel there wasn't anything in my suggestion that Mr. Langdown should get so hot around the collar about.
