Scouting through the net

Over 25 million scouts from 225 countries and territories will take part in the 11th Jamboree On The Internet and 50th Jamboree On The Air this weekend.

The Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI) is an annual event where scouts and guides all over the world contact each other by means of the internet.

It is a real jamboree during which scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas shared, contributing to the world brotherhood of scouting.

The largest annual event, the Jamboree On The Air (JOTA) will be held during the same weekend.

During JOTA, about 500,000 scouts and guides all over the world establish contact by means of amateur radio.

The 50th JOTA theme, Around The World In 50 Hours, encourages radio operators to travel around the globe in 50 hours, while establishing scouting contacts in as many countries as possible during the event.

With this aim in mind, this golden jubilee JOTA is two hours longer and will run from 10 p.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday.

Scout groups and scouting members are encouraged to participate in both the JOTI and JOTA activities, at group or individual level, as a golden opportunity for establishing contacts beyond these shores, while promoting the local scout association and country as an ideal scouting destination.

Registration at the JOTI/JOTA website http://www.jotajoti.org/community/ is recommended as this ensures more exposure in the scouting events directory.
