20 measures for Gozo

The government yesterday announced 20 measures aimed specifically for Gozo.

Some are actually projects carried forward from previous years, such as the rehabilitation of the Qortin landfill and the development of a training hotel in Qala. Other measures include cruise liner facilities in Xlendi, a contemporary art centre, a new government back office centre and a scheme to attract international educational institutions to set up a campus in Gozo. The Prime Minister also announced a new Employment and Training Corporation scheme which will give technical assistance and grants to people wanting to set up their own business, while he also said the Gozo Employment Aid Scheme, which has so far not been very effective, would be expanded.

Some Lm500,000 have also been set aside for afforestation projects.

Work would start on the rehabilitation of the inner Mgarr Harbour and Zewwieqa promenade and a programme will be launched for the two theatres in Gozo to be used for conferences throughout the year.
