The National Platform of Maltese NGDOs (non-governmental develoment organisations) is organising a one-day seminar on the Millennium Development Goals at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on Wednesday.
The seminar - held in collaboration with KOPIN, Stop Poverty! Neqirdu l-Faqar! campaign and Global Action Schools - is being held to coincide with International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
It will discuss how to raise awareness about poverty and global issues, enhance networks between organisations involved in development work and showcase work done by Maltese NGDOs and other organisations.
Before the conference, people are asked to stand up as a group for one minute - at schools and work places - and then send a text message with the number of people standing up and the name of the organisation/workplace or school to 7984-2015 or by e-mail to standupmalta@gmail.com. Photos may be e-mailed as well.
All picture messages of stand-ups will be shown during Wednesday's MDG conference. This initiative will be held in every part of the world.
The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed every year since 1993, when the UN General Assembly designated this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate poverty and destitution in all countries, particularly developing countries.
