The Malta Standards Authority has established a reputation of how a standards body in a small country can be effective not only at national level but also at regional and international levels, Competitiveness Minister Censu Galea has said.
In a message for World Standards Day being marked today with the theme "Standards and the Citizen: Contributing to Society", Mr Galea said the European Commission has also proposed the model adapted in Malta to the emerging countries in the Balkans.
Recently, he added, the MSA signed a memorandum of understanding with its Libyan counterpart to work closer together in standardisation activities.
The MSA today has a seat on the governing boards of the European standards organisations CEN and CENELEC, and was also elected last year for the first time to the Council of International Standardisation Organisation.
