A 62-year-old man was yesterday charged with importing about half a kilogramme of heroin from Rome on Wednesday

Emanuel Scerri, of Valletta, pleaded not guilty to conspiring to deal in heroin, importing the drug, being in possession of the heroin with the intent to sell it and relapsing.

The man was apprehended at the airport and the drugs were allegedly found hidden in his shoes.

Mr Scerri was remanded in custody.

Police Inspector Victor Aquilina prosecuted.
