EU-Africa summit

Our Foreign Minister enjoys a lot of credibility with his counterparts worldwide, and as we know he deserves to become the next Commonwealth General Secretary. If he was to be elected it would also be a feather in his and Malta's cap.

We are aware that the nations of the Commonwealth have denounced Robert Mugabe's regime and barred him from their membership club. His henchman has also been barred from entering EU states, however, one cannot understand why some of the EU member states are now dillydallying around the issue of whether he should be allowed to attend the next EU-Africa Summit and not stand up for what is right.

We are sure that, if he was allowed to attend, he would use this platform to denounce anyone who opposes his dictatorship as he has done at every opportunity he has been given over a long number of years, and he would also denounce the same EU member states that invited him in the first instance. So why has a decision to bar him from attending this next EU summit all of a sudden become so complicated to achieve by some of the EU member states?

One is not advocating to follow any particular EU leader who has already decided to boycott this summit if Mr Mugabe was allowed to attend, as again we all know that in today's world we as a nation are old enough to make our own decisions, as we should also know that our decision carries more than sufficient weight to influence other EU countries to follow suit as it is known that Malta "punches above its weight in the EU".

In the meantime, Zimbabweans are dying of starvation, in a once prosperous Rhodesia and the sole person who is responsible for bringing this country to its knees is no one else but this Marxist dictator, whose country happens not to have any oil reserves to entice countries in the western world to invade!
