Kavallieri Shireburn 19
Aloysians Prominent 15
\nThe first game of the season confirmed Kavallieri as the powerhouse of men's handball.
Surely, they will challenge for all the major titles again this year as Aloysians paraded a new-look formation after losing two key players but signing three new ones.
This was a very tactical contest, mostly based on defensive play.
Kavallieri held control for most of the time and by the end of the first half they had opened a five-goal lead.
Their six-flat aggressive defence proved difficult to penetrate as the 3-2-1 defence deployed by Aloysians left ample spaces on the wings from where Kavallieri were finding it easy to score goals.
The second half saw Aloysians more methodic in their play, eventually closing the gap to just one goal.
Then, in the last few minutes, Aloysians threw caution to the wind but their bold efforts proved futile as Kavallieri found enough space to add more goals to their tally and preserve their lead.
Top scorer: Daniel Tabone.
La Salle Vitality 9
Aloysians E. Trailers 11
Being their 10th year as a club, La Salle Vitality expected a better outcome from this women's Super Cup final.
The addition of two national squad members should have made the team look stronger but Aloysians Express Trailers still proved that little better in the end.
There was no team dominating this match even though Aloysians had more options in attack. La Salle tried to keep Brenda Vassallo at bay with one-on-one defence tactics but Aloysians were prepared for this and made the best out of every attack.
Both goalkeepers looked unconvincing at times but in the end had a say in keeping such a low score.
Top scorer: Brenda Vassallo.
