AFM Enlistment

The Armed Forces of Malta have opened enlistment for potential recruits and bandsmen to serve on the force.

"A career in the AFM offers many challenges and the opportunity to learn new skills, assume responsibilities, lead and, in many cases, enjoy adventure," the army said.

Entry requirements across the AFM depend on the selected role. The common basic requirements are that applicants have to be Maltese, aged between 18 and 25 by September 1 and are in good health.

Applicants to become gunners follow a medical examination and a written test in Maltese, English and maths, where the standard required is that of form three secondary education. Applicants will also sit for an interview designed to assess their personal qualities such as appearance, alertness, aptitude and self-confidence.

Three schemes of enlistment are now open:

Scheme A is for those who have three O levels in maths, English and Maltese (these will be exempted from the written exam); scheme B is for individuals who do not have the educational requirements for scheme A and who will be required to sit for one or all the written exams' portion of the selection process, while scheme C is for those prospective bandsmen, where applicants may opt to enlist under scheme A or B after having taken a music audition to evaluate their musical competence before proceeding with the rest of the examination.
