All political parties aspire to provide work for Gozitan workers in Gozo. Although some workers had to be transferred to Malta when departments were being restructured, there were others who were transferred to Gozo to perform duties that were previously carried out in Malta. The Social Security Department is one of them.

The government needs to consider other services, like elderly care. In Malta there are over 800 elderly people waiting for a vacancy at St Vincent de Paul Residence and around 10 per cent are occupying beds at St Luke's Hospital.

It is time the government built elderly units within the Gozo General Hospital to cater for such clients.

This system will give a group of health workers, including nurses, the opportunity to work in Gozo and can provide Maltese elderly who prefer to live in Gozo the chance to do so.
