Sunrise English Club

I would like to bring to the notice of readers an initiative that has been running successfully in Cospicua since February 2006. I am referring to the Sunrise English Club, one of the programmes of Centru Tbexbix.

The experience of the past two years has proven that this project is valued by the community and more parents are enrolling their children in the club, which has been providing regular after-school English classes with a difference.

The Sunrise English Club was initiated with the intention of motivating students to learn English by providing a joyful learning experience. It provides regular exposure to spoken English, with activities like drama, IT, songs, crafts, games as well as reading and writing, everything in a supportive (co-operative) environment as opposed to a competitive one.

All activities are intended to inspire children to learn and to continuously improve their knowledge and English language skills. The club also provides support for children with special learning requirements.

The Sunrise English Club, like all programmes of Centru Tbexbix is designed on the principles of Neo-Humanistic Education. Neo-Humanism is the practice of humanistic values broadened to society and nature, seeking to evoke compassion for all living beings and creation. Programmes of Centru Tbexbix encourage enthusiasm for life-long learning and personal development. For the all round development academic learning is complemented by stimulating and nurturing of creative expression, love for nature and benevolent communication skills.

Till now the English Club is catering for children from five to 13 years, and no fees are charged for the service. It is envisaged that programmes for teenagers and adults will also be introduced in the near future. Running the programme are professional volunteers, who commit some of their time regularly according to their capacity.

The purpose of this letter is twofold - to appeal for donations to support the Sunrise English Club and also to bring the programme to the notice of individuals who are looking for service projects where to do volunteer work.
