One of the favourite complaints of actresses is the one that goes: "They don't write any good parts for women." Well Robert Harling's comedy drama Steel Magnolias is the exception that proves the rule. Indeed all the roles in this funny and poignant play are female roles, not a bloke in sight.
Steel Magnolias is the MADC's choice as the play to open their 2007/2008 season at The Manoel Theatre. It is set in and around Truvy's hair and beauty salon in a small Southern US town. We, the audience, are taken through four scenes in two acts that will deal with birth, life and death.
The play is directed by Michael Zammit Maempel and the cast contains many of Malta's finest actresses including Polly March, Isabel Warrington, Charlotte Grech, Pia Zammit, Katherine Brown and Emily Jones. Steel Magnolias opens on October 12 and runs until October 14 at The Manoel Theatre.
