A man and his niece were given an 18-month jail term suspended for four years after they admitted to stealing cheques and defrauding a bank of Lm1,800.

Alexander Cross, 53, and his niece Alexia Cross, 28, admitted to stealing the cheques, forging documents, making use of forged documents and defrauding HSBC Bank in October last year.

Police Inspector Angelo Gafà prosecuted.

Lawyers Roberto Montalto and Raphael Fenech Adami were defence counsel.
