Fado strikes a chord with Maltese audience

World renowned fado singer Cristina Branco enthralled her audience at the Manoel Theatre on Sunday with a repertoire that brought Portugal's foremost singing tradition to the attention of Maltese music aficionados.

During the concert, a tribute by the singer to legendary fadista Amalia Rodrigues, Ms Branco sang classical fado songs interspersed with original contemporary works that have established her as a leading exponent of the genre.

The event was organised by the Embassy of Portugal in collaboration with the Manoel Theatre and supported by the Instituto Camões, Portugal's cultural institute, as well as Banif Bank Malta, the Corinthia Group, HalconViagens and John's Garage.
